Garage Door Spring Repair in Damascus, OR and East Clackamas County
A broken spring is the single most common garage door failure we fix. The spring counterbalances the full weight of the door, so when it snaps the door becomes far too heavy to lift safely and the opener cannot do the job alone. We replace both torsion and extension springs the same day, 7 days a week, across Damascus and the east county.

Signs your garage door spring has failed
You will often hear a loud bang from the garage, like a firecracker, when a torsion spring breaks. After that the door may refuse to open, open only a few inches, feel extremely heavy by hand, or show a visible gap in the spring coil above the door. The opener may strain, reverse, or do nothing at all.
Springs are under high tension and store a lot of energy, which is why a release can injure you or damage the door. We strongly recommend leaving spring replacement to a trained technician. The garage door industry group DASMA gives the same guidance.
Garage door spring broke on one side?
Many doors carry two torsion springs, one on each side of the center bracket, and one can snap while the other holds. The door may still lift a little, or the opener may drag it up crooked and slow. That last spring and the opener are now carrying a load meant for two, so stop using the opener and leave the door where it is.
Keep cars and people clear of the opening and call us. Wide double doors and the tall doors on shops and RV bays usually run two springs, so a one-sided break is common on them. We replace the springs, check the cables, and rebalance the door so it lifts evenly again.
One spring or both?
We look at both springs, explain what we see, and give you a free estimate before any work starts. Call (503) 487-8942 and tell us what the door is doing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I open my door with a broken spring?
It is not safe. Without the spring, the full weight of the door is on you or the opener, and it can drop suddenly. Leave it down, keep people and cars clear, and call a technician.
Should I replace one spring or both?
If your door uses two springs we usually recommend replacing both, since they wear at the same rate and the second often fails shortly after the first.
How long do garage door springs last?
It depends on how often the door runs. A door opened many times a day wears its springs out much sooner than one used a few times a week. Our guide on how long garage door springs last explains the warning signs.
