Silverton sits on the eastern edge of the Willamette Valley, with Silver Creek running through town and the wooded Waldo Hills climbing to the south. It is the gateway to Silver Falls State Park, and the Oregon Garden is here too. For garage doors, what matters is the mix: older houses near downtown, homes up steep hill streets, and farm shops out in the valley. Silverton shares the south end of our area with Mount Angel, Woodburn and Molalla.
Garage door repair in Silverton, Oregon
We repair the whole door, whatever its age: springs, cables, rollers, hinges, sections, tracks and openers.
Some of the houses close to downtown go back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, including Craftsman homes on the rise above Main Street. If your older home has a wooden door running on extension springs and a tired old opener, it can usually be repaired, whether the opener is a Chamberlain or a LiftMaster, a Genie or a Craftsman. If the wood is rotted or the door has grown very heavy, we show you the damage and give you a free estimate for repairing it and for replacing it. A new door from Clopay, Amarr or Wayne Dalton is an option too, and we haul the old one off when the new one goes in. Total is licensed and insured, whether the job is a spring on a century-old house or a brand new door.
Why does a door drift, and does a sloped driveway matter?
A door that creeps down when you leave it half open, or drifts up on its own, has springs that are out of balance, and that adjustment is a job for a technician.
Spring tension is set with steel bars and a lot of stored force, and it can cause serious injury when it slips. Please leave the springs and cables alone. We rebalance or replace the springs, check the cables and drums, and test the door by hand and with the opener. A door that slams the last foot as it closes is the same balance problem showing up from the other end. On a sloped driveway we also make sure the bottom seal meets the slab evenly, so water and leaves stay outside.

Don’t run the opener. A bent track or a cracked section can make the door bind or fall, so leave it as it is and call us.
Silverton knows what a bad ice storm can do. In February 2021 the ice storm brought down poles, trees and branches across the city, and outside crews were brought in to get the power back on. A limb that lands on the roof edge or the door can bend a track or crack a section without it being obvious from the driveway. If the door won’t sit square afterward, leave it where it is, take a few photos for your records and call. Clear pictures taken before anything is moved make any insurance conversation easier. Often a damaged section can be swapped through panel replacement, and a bent rail is straightened or replaced with track repair.
Does an old extension-spring door need safety cables?
Yes. Each extension spring should have a thin safety cable running through its middle, so a broken spring can’t fly across the garage.
Extension springs stretch along the tracks above the door, one on each side. Older installs sometimes went without safety cables, or the cables were lost in an earlier repair. From a safe distance, without touching anything, look for a cable threaded through the center of each spring. If you can’t see one, keep people and cars clear while the door moves and call (503) 487-8942. We fit safety cables, replace worn extension springs in pairs, and set the balance so it lifts evenly. It is a small job that takes a real hazard out of the garage.

Frequently asked questions
Is Silverton within your service area?
Yes. Silverton and the farm roads around it are part of our southern coverage, about 40 miles down the Cascade Highway from our Damascus base.
I have an old wooden garage door on an older house. Can it be repaired?
Often, yes. Springs, cables, rollers and hinges are standard parts. If the wood sections are rotted or the door is very heavy, we explain repair and replacement before any work, and the estimate is free.
A tree limb hit my garage door in a storm. What should I do?
Keep the opener off and don’t move the door. A bent track or cracked section can make the door bind or drop. Take photos for your records and call us.
My door creeps down or drifts up on its own. Can I adjust the springs?
Please leave that to us. Spring tension can cause serious injury. A drifting door is out of balance, and we rebalance or replace the springs, then try the door by hand and with the opener.
