Choosing the right opener

The main drive types are chain (durable and simple), belt (much quieter, ideal for attached garages), and screw drive. For an attached garage where a bedroom is nearby, a belt drive is usually worth it. Battery backup keeps the door working in a power outage, which our Oregon winters make worthwhile.

We install and set up LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and Craftsman openers, including wifi models you control from your phone. Every install includes safety sensor setup, force and travel adjustment, and programming your remotes and keypad.

Adding an opener to an older door

Most older sectional doors can take a modern opener once the springs are balanced, so the door lifts easily by hand. Before we fit anything we check the balance, the space above the door and the outlet, then we set up the safety sensors. If the door feels heavy or runs crooked, we fix that first so the new opener lasts.

The estimate is free, and if a repair to your current opener is the better value, we will tell you.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Chain or belt drive, which is better?

Belt drive is much quieter and best for attached garages near living space. Chain drive is durable and costs a little less, fine for detached garages.

Do new openers have battery backup?

Many do. Battery backup keeps your door working during a power outage, handy in our winter storms, and we recommend it for most homes.

Can you reuse my old rail?

Usually we install a complete new opener and rail for reliability, but we will assess your setup and advise.

Can you put a garage door opener on an old garage door?

Usually, yes. If the door is balanced and moves freely by hand, a modern opener fits most older sectional doors. We check that first and tell you if anything needs fixing before the install.
